As part of the Prior Weston’s healthy school programme children are made aware of how they can improve their own health and wellbeing. Lessons are given, workshops held and free fruit is supplied to children in Key Stage 1 daily.
The school's caterers (Caterlink) provide a café service before and after school as well as dinners at lunchtime.
We are proud to bring healthy and seasonal food to our school meals, and to serve meat and fish that is sustainably sourced.
The lunchtime routine
We will be changing the current system of two lunch sittings to a non-stop service where children will select their lunch from a counter, offering a greater choice of food, and children will then be able to choose who to eat with.
There will be a hot buffet service at the new food counter where children will be able to select from a meat choice, a non-meat choice or a jacket potato with a protein topping. The proposed changes will incorporate a self-service salad bar and a yoghurt station with fresh fruit platter, and fresh milk will be readily available. All meat dishes will be Halal and Caterlink will provide certification for this.
The new lunch service will start after the Christmas break to allow time to carry out some minor modernisation works. We hope that all children will be keen to try the new food on offer. If your child does bring a in a packed lunch this will be monitored to ensure the government’s school food plan is adhered to.
Islington currently provides free school meals to all Nursery and Primary School pupils, including those at Prior Weston. This is regardless of your family income, as long as the online free school meals form has been completed. Please register for free school meals here or contact the main school office for more details.
